Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks his first championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one different events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and play positively, supported by an better serving game.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first tour title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

The opponent defended 4 initial chances in a competitive final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
