The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The buzz about The Game Awards was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team might be building a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously flexible, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
