This New Horror Film Can Be Streamed, and It Has the Power to Test Your Romantic Bond.

We present a challenge for partners in committed relationships who are fans of horror films: Get comfortable with your loved one and watch Together. This 2025 indie hit just made its online premiere via Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like conventional body horror, but inside Together exists a intense meditation about how we choose to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together represents the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have been together for a decade. Married in real life in 2017, the two stars bring a unique chemistry to their characters, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The narrative starts when Millie and Tim relocate from the big city to the countryside for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, of course, but that’s primarily where the cliches end. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim tumble into an subterranean cavern. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence starts to affect the pair. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The complete narrative is a methodically building fright fest, blending elements of hallucinatory nightmares, unsettling (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and delivers them in a gradually swelling sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Millie’s confidence and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his hesitance to pursue anything but his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and distant from his social circle. He dreads the idea of completely losing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he can’t drive and needs Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie avoids making one partner or the other the obvious villain.

The couple grapple with the sort of issues that arise in long-term unions a decade in. Fundamentally, they have affection for each other. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these fears of codependency and giving oneself over to a partner, the metaphor does not come across as overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama work together in a mutually beneficial way.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s final act, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. Conversely, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could function as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the ending inspire anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply turn to your partner and say, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can undertake today.

Together is currently playing on Hulu as of this moment.
